Snow Removal

Currently, the DPW is responsible for clearing over 41 miles of roads. Successful snow & ice removal operations for that many miles requires everbody’s cooperation. The Township’s current policy states that deicing salt is applied initially during the beginning phase of a storm. When the snow accumulation reaches two (2) inches, snowplows are attached to the trucks and the actual plowing operation begins.

Please help the DPW in this difficult task by keeping in mind these simple rules :

  • Keep vehicles off the streets so that the snow can be removed curb to curb.
  • Remove any items that obstruct or project into the street. Typical item that fall into this category are portable basketball nets and garbage cans.
  • Drive only if necessary. Reduced traffic eases salting & plowing operations and reduces the amount of hard packed snow.
  • Keep 100 feet back of snow removal equipment. This will eliminate the salt from hitting your vehicle as it is being spread.
  • Maximum safe plowing speed is 30 miles per hour. Please be patient if you are behind a snowplow.
  • DO NOT attempt ot pass snow removal equipment. Visibility is reduced during a storm and therefore you may not have sufficient distance to make a safe passing maneuver.
  • Non-Through streets (cul-de-sacs and dead ends) are done last. Please be patient if you live on one of these type of streets.
  • The DPW is only responsible for Township streets. Burlington County is responsible for County roadways and the New Jersey Department of Transportation is responsible for Route 38. In new home developments, the developer is responsible for snow removal until the streets are dedicated to the Township.
  • DO NOT shovel or blow snow back into the street from your driveway or sidewalk after the plows have gone by. This creates a safety hazard for vehicles and extra work for the DPW to re-plow or salt spot areas.
